The staff and auto technicians at Crystal Collision Center took care of my auto body damage. It was fast, friendly service and I had my car back in just a few days. I took advantage of their auto detailing department as well and my car looks like brand new!
Yesterday, I brought my car in to the place I mentioned above (not Crystal Collision) which I have gone to for years. They not only washed my car free of charge (which despite someone below claiming was done at Crystal Collision, was definitley not), but they also rotated my tires, checked my brakes, checked my timing chain, buffed off corrosion near the lug nuts, fixed my floor heat vent, fixed the faulty alert for my headlights when the door is opened, and checked out the price of a replacement mirror. I was charged $191 dollars for all of this, and their estimate for a new mirror was $80 less than Crystal Collision. I guess this is just an FYI for those seeking quality of service and bang for their buck.
Maybe I'm being entitled or I'm just used to more personable mechanics and more considerate service, but I was not impressed and won't be going back to Crystal Collision & Carwash.
I have a trusted and independently owned car place that I've been going to in St. Paul for almost a decade, but I moved to N Mpls, and for smaller things I wanted to find somewhere closer. I checked out reviews online and found that Crystal Collision seemed like a good place.
When I got my car back, I was charged for two hours of labor (at a reasonable hourly cost), but all that was done was a door alignment and a side mirror glued on. The tape residue (from how I had it attached) wasn't even removed, and it sits cockeyed. (I guess with that statement, I'm assuming that a car detailing business would have fancy cleaners that would make removing the residue a relatively simple job.) All in all it was $145., which seems a little steep for the work actually done.
Since it's a car wash as well, I kind of thought they'd run it through that as a perk for a first time customer, but no luck.
This week I called and chatted with someone about what I needed done. She was extremely kind, and I felt valued and comfortable bringing my car there. When I went to drop off my keys in the morning, I walked in and the two men at the counter just kind of looked at me. No greeting or smile or any typical customer service niceties. I explained why I was there and they weren't rude or anything, they wrote things down, but they also didn't give me any kind of service I'd go back there for. (Maybe it was just early and their days hadn't started well...?)
Called and made an appointment to get my car detailed. My car looks like the day I bought it. I also got my headlights buffed and it really made a difference. Really loved the service and the way my car looks now.
When the gentleman called to give me info about what was done and to let me know my car was ready to pick up, he explained to me three times (at the very least) that the mirror was not a permanent fix. I felt a bit talked down to, and had understood when I requested the cheapest fix possible, that it was not a permanent one. I also understood after his first statement that they had only glued the mirror on, and made that clear to him. Still though, this was reiterated at least twice more.
I had a truck in rough shape a couple years ago. Brought it in and they advised totalling it. Which was the right call. I'm writing this review because the guy I talked to took ten minutes to explain why it wasn't worth repairing, even though he had no expectation of profit from the situation.
Yes, I did request a cheap solution, but had I known so little care would be taken, I would have just done it myself.
Also, I noticed upon further inspection, that not only was there no attempt made to remove the tape residue at Crystal Collision, but also the glue applied was actually put over the residue! I removed all of the residue that was left after their work, in an attempt to make it look less trashy, but I can't get the rest off because of the sloppy glue job.
I do appreciate the attention given by the owner to every review for their business left on Google, but that attention does not make up for the poor service and work I received.
I feel obliged to also mention, that professionals who own a car detailing business should know that running a car through a car wash will of course not remove duct tape residue from the body of the vehicle.
These guys are awesome! Dave at the front desk made dealing with my car accident and insurance company a breeze. Body guys in the shop did great work and my SUV looks really great. Thank you, I'll be back again for the detailing services and future mechanical work.
